Children should be taught what their rights are.

FALSE: The emphasis in education should not be on rights, rather on God given responsibilities. If you teach people what their rights are, you promote rebellion; if you teach people what their responsibilities are, you promote revival! Promoting rights of a child transfers authority from parents, where is belongs, to government, who must protect those rights.

Romans 5:12; Proverbs 22:15

It is only right to abort a fetus if it is certain that the child would be severely handicapped or if the woman was raped.

FALSE: To abort a child because it has a physical or mental handicap or because a woman was violated is placing man in the place of God, deciding who should live and who should die. This law gives the government the power to decide which humans should live and which should die. As more and more seniors retire and put a strain social security, should they to be told be the government it's your time to die? God forbid!

Hebrews 12:15; James 4:6; 2 Corinthians 12:7-10; Leviticus 26; Ephesians 5:6; 2 Chronicles 7:14

We must all work to abolish war and achieve world piece.

FALSE: True peace will only come when Christ returns and establishes His kingdom here on earth. Satan is at work in this current world deceiving the people of this world into believing man can establish such. This is the New World Order which Christians have been warned to watch for because it will appear good, yet be controlled by evil.

Phillippians 2:10; Revelation 20-22; Matthew 24:7; 2 Thessalonians 2:3; 2 Thessalonians 2:7-12

The real solution to our economic problem is a system which eliminates poverty on one hand and excessive profits on the other.

FALSE: God wants us to trust Him for our daily needs, not the government. God uses poverty for several reasons: to bring a wicked person to repentance: the prodigal son; to protect us from forgetting who it is that provides: the Israelites were warned when entering the promised land not to forget God once prosperity came upon them; to give Christians the opportunity to show their faith rather than merely talk about it. The economic crisis of our day is not due to a failure of a financial system, rather it is because we in our financial system failed to honor Scripture's teachings on finance. Some of which are: letting greed go unchecked; not paying workers a just wage; letting lazy workers be paid the same as hard workers; the list can go on for some time!

Matthew 6:11; Luke 15:11-32; Mark 10:21; Matthew 6:19-20; Deuteronomy 28:13-48

The best form of government is a democracy with freedom of religion.

FALSE: Democracy is only a good form of government IF it's laws are based on Scriptural principles as ours was in the beginning and only as long as the people remain committed to such. Once the people turn away from God, democracy is doomed to fail being left in the hands of humans without regard for God, they will seek for themselves without regard for others. Religious freedom as a right from government is an illusion which will one day end at the will of a government. True religious freedom is choosing to live what you believe regardless of the consequences that may be fall you.

Deuteronomy 7:25-26; 12:30; 13:6-11; 1 Corinthians 5:6

Since we are created equal, husbands and wives should have equal rights.

FALSE: All are equal before God, but within Scripture each is given a different role. An emphasis on rights is not only a distortion of truth, but an attempt to under mind God ordained authority. The truth of equal submission is in the Bible, however the truth of individual responsibility is also there. To emphasize one without the other will place you out of balance. Both husband and wife find their identity and their purpose in life by fulfilling God given responsibilities.

1 Corinthians 11:3; Romans 13:1-6; 1 Peter 2:13-3:7; Ephesians 5:21-33; Isaiah 14:12-14;
Genesis 3:5; Revelation 3:16-27; 1 Samuel 15:23

Mothers should be able to find fulfilling careers outside the home.

FALSE: If a wife and mother finds a "fulfilling" career outside the home, she will have two masters. No one can serve two masters, she will be forced to choose which she will serve. If she chooses her outside vocation, she marriage will be weakened and her potential influence over her children will diminished. God created a wife to be an aid to her husband and a mother to her children and when she is older, to teach younger women to do the same and to love their husbands. While the Proverbs 31 woman had many vocational interests they all had her family at the center. Even young widows are counseled to marry and care for their new family not to give Satan a chance to speak reproachfully.

Matthew 6:24; Genesis 2:18; Titus 2:4-5; 1 Timothy 5:14

Pornography, drugs, and sexual perversion are evil, but we must allow them to exist because we cannot legislate morality.

FALSE: The whole purpose of law is to punish the immoral and reward the good doer.

1 Timothy 1:9-10; Romans 13:1-6; Matthew 5:13

The death penalty is not a deterrent to crime.

FALSE: The death penalty is very effective and in other countries this is seen more clearly than our own because of the loop holes allowed criminal in our nation's system, which have been magnified in recent years. God has given government the responsibility and authority to punish by death. This is much different than a person taking a life out of revenage or for any other reason.

Romans 13:3-4; Exodus 20:13; Deuteronomy 13:10-11; 17:12-13; 21: 20-21

Criminals are really the victims of the injustices of our society.

FALSE: Criminals are not a victim. They are merely showing the sin nature we all are born with. It is only by salvation and obeying the daily promoting of the Holy Spirit that we conquer the sin nature. Blaming society promotes a Godless philosophy that no moral laws are written in our heart as stated in God's Word.

Romans 1:21; 2:14-15; Romans 7-8; Jeremiah 17:9; Genesis 3:12-13

Homosexuality is not mentioned very much in the Bible and some people are born with homosexual tendencies.

FALSE: The Bible doesn't use the word "homosexual," yet it uses other words with the same meaning: sodomy; vile affections; men having unnatural affections for men and women unnatural affections for women; violating nature; abusers of themselves; effeminate; defilers of themselves. All of which are used to condemn the sin of homosexual practices. The Bible also condemns oral sex and masturbation. No one is born homosexual. We are all born with capable of every kind of sin. In rejecting the moral law of God written on all our hearts we open ourselves up to any sin. To think otherwise is pride.

Romans 1: 24-28; 2:15; Matthew 19:12; 2 Corinthians 10:13; Jeremiah 32:27

Verses relating to sodomy: Genesis 19: 4-10; 1 Kings 14:24; 15:11-12; 2 Kings 23:27;
Leviticus 18:22; Deuteronomy 22:5; Romans 1:24-28; Judges 19:23; Jude 1:7-8; 1 Corinthians 6:9;
1 Timothy 1:9-10; Colossians 3:5-6

It is not right to have Bible reading in public schools because of the need for separation of Church and State.

FALSE: It is right to have Bible reading in public schools because our legal system is based on the Word of God. It is the government's responsibility to promote a God fearing society. The Bible and prayer were a vital part of the public school system from its foundation until in the 60s it was taken out. It would never have been in the school system from the beginning had it not been intended. Additionally, congress starts every session with prayer. Odd that the leaders would keep this, yet remove the other unless their was an intention plan to remove God as the center of our government and replace Him with merely man.

Romans 13:3-4; Proverbs 16:6

Moral conditions in our country are bad, but they have been just as bad during previous times in our history.

FALSE: Sin is like a cancer, it continues to grow until death. There have been peeks and lows in corruption throughout history, yet depravity continues to worst over the fabric of time. The divorce rate is merely one example. While any one sin my increase or decrease at anytime, the combination of sins and sins influence, collectively, has grown.

Romans 6:23; Ephesians 5:6

Laws should be made to prohibit false cults from teaching error.

FALSE: Laws to limit or prohibit false cults from spreading their error would also be used to limit or prohibit Christianity. The brighter the light shines in us, the more powerful the impact we have on a lost world. We must live what we believe not merely talk about it and we must stop uses excuses that keep us from living the life God wants us to live.

Romans 1:21; Matthew 5:14-15; 6:23; John 3:19-20; James 1:22-27

It is the job of government to give a good education to all children.

FALSE: It is the primary responsibility of the parents to provide a Godly education to their children, not the State! Fathers and mothers are commanded to teach their children. Should a parent hire someone to aid them, that person should also reinforce this Godly education, not distract from it. There is no such thing as neutral education! It will either be pro-God or anti-God.

Galatians 4:2; Deuteronomy 4:6-9; 6:7; Psalm 127:3

A strong nation is built on strong local communities.

FALSE: A strong nation, like the body, is built up of many cells. At the heart of a nation is its families. Strong families produce strong local communities, strong regions or States and strong national support. A great nation comes from great families and great families come from individual hearts sold out for Christ, not the religion of Christianity, rather the relationship of Christians with their Creator.

Daniel 3:1-30; Study the captivities of Israel

A child's personality cannot be changed after the age of seven.

FALSE: Personality is made up of one's character and our character which is contrary to the character of Christ can and does change at all ages of life. We are a new creature in Christ, old things pass away and new things are made possible through Him.

2 Corinthians 5:17

Primitive tribes in our world are just now emerging from the “stone age.”

FALSE: Primitive tribes are not just now emerging from the stone age. These tribes are remnants of civilizations which were more advance in many ways. Consider the Egyptian pyramids or the Maya temple ruins. As archeologist sift through ruins of past civilizations, they discover irrefutable evidence that they were much more advanced than imagined. Some have even tried to explain away finding by suggesting either superhuman gods or aliens once visited our planet. Although there is another explanation: study of the Maya culture reveals the immorality, murder and human sacrifices which marked their final days. God is patient, but He will destroy any nation that does not repent. Our nation is no exception!

Exodus 17:14

A newspaper should report all the facts it gets because the public has a right to know.

FALSE: A news reporting agency should not report facts indiscriminately. Truth out of balance leads to error. Incomplete facts or facts put in a negative light promote false conclusions. Detrimental information about people should never be made public until all the facts have been checked and verified privately. Details regarding sex crimes can have a devastating impact on the minds of those that read it, for example.

Deuteronomy 19:16-18; Ephesians 5:12; Galatians 6:7-8

News reporting, like history writing, can and should be done with an objective mind.

FALSE: No one can be truly objective or free from his own bias. A reporter or historian will be influenced by his own experiences and his own philosophy of life. Christ said a man's morals will influence his views.

Matthew 12:34

Alcoholism is a disease.

FALSE: Alcoholism is sin, God calls it drunkenness and by treating it as a disease we are treating it as a physical problem rather than what it is: a spiritual problem. Sin is only overcome by confession and repentance through the power of God's grace by faith in Christ. If the sin of alcoholism is not overcome, it indicates a deeper sin which is not being dealt with.

Romans 13:13; 1 Corinthians 5:11; Jeremiah 17:10

Television is harmful because of all the violence it shows to children.

FALSE: Showing children violence, in itself, is not harmful: God has included much violence in the Bible. There is a major difference, however, between the violence in the Bible and the violence on TV or movies. The Bible shows a conflict between good and evil, between righteousness and wickedness, whereas, TV the conflict is between evil and a greater evil. With TV, one is forced to pick between two evil and not as evil, in Scripture, God has us pick between evil and good. God tells us not to keep company with evil doers, that is become intimate with them and have them as dear friends or as if they were a part of the family. We are to witness to them, share Christ with them and meet their physical and spiritual needs, not hangout with them.

Psalm 101:6-7; 1 Corinthians 5:11

The history of mankind is a simple continual repetition of itself.

FALSE: History has a beginning: God described it in Genesis. History has an ending: God described it in Revelation. History is "His story" and the theme is the Lord Jesus Christ. It is true history has cycles as God deals with people and nations according to His Word and the life principles found therein. God will bless and curse all who obey and disobey His Word. God sees our heart's motive and His judgements are true and just.

Deuteronomy 28; Romans 11:33-36; 1 Samuel 16:7; Ecclesiastes 12:13-14

There is not very much we can do about wickedness, because God predicted that wickedness would increase during the end times.

FALSE: There is much that can be done and God's judgement on cities and nations is in direct relationship to what Christians do or fail to do! God was going to destroy the city of Nineveh and when warned of it, they believed on God and proclaimed a fast, repented, and turned from their wickedness. God did not destroy them! God was going to destroy Sodom, but Abraham interceded for them, if only ten righteous in the city, God would not destroy it. God took out the few and destroyed it. God says if we pray for our leaders we can live a quiet and peaceable life. God say if Christians will humble themselves, pray, seek His face and REPENT of their wicked ways, He will heal their land! Spirit-controlled Christians are God's restraining force in this world against evil. If we grieve and quench the Holy Spirit in our lives by sin, we lose God's power in our lives and we lose the influence we could have had. If we do not return to God, we are good for nothing but to be cast out and to be trodden under the feet of men!

Jonah 3:1-10; Genesis 18:32; Ezekiel 22:30; 1 Timothy 2:1-2; 2 Chronicles 7:14; Matthew 5:13

Civilizations don't just die; first they are deceived, then they are destroyed by God.

  • It dethrones God.
  • It exalts human reason.
  • It trusts in education & science to solve its problems.
  • It believes man is evolving into perfection.
  • It replaces God's moral standards with situational ethics.
  • It promotes sensual pleasure and instant gratification.
  • It strives for a world utopia.
  • It makes the State the sovereign dictator.

We must never forget, a civilization is not destroyed because of the wickedness of unbelievers, rather out of the carnality of the Christians living in it.

2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

Bedside Bible is a term my mom used as I was growing up. It simply means to study, not merely read or memorize, but study God's Gracious Word to see HOW the Master wishes us to LIVE our lives. This, by far, has been the most influential impact upon my life. More than church Christians friends, pastors, or seminary classes. There is something GOOD to be said, by reaching into the Holy Word of God and digging for treasures by which we can enrich our Christian life and experience. There is NO substitute for learning about God and how He wishes us to live. The book of James says it best: be not hearers, only, of the word, but doers! And how can we do, if we don't study to know what God wants done? I cannot fix a car without a manual because I don't know about cars; the same is true of the Christian life. How can I know what God wants of me, if I don't study? Bedside Bible is a seminary we can ALL afford! Get to The Book - learn it, live it, love it!

The Scriptures

The Holy Bible is truth without error, inspired and preserved by God which was recorded by men guided by the Holy Spirit. The Bible is the only authority by which all human conduct, creeds and opinions are tested: Scriptural Support

God
There is only one living and true God, who is infinite and eternal, the maker and supreme ruler of heaven and earth, worthy of all honor, confidence and love. God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are three parts in one, with God the Father as the head, working in harmony for our redemption.

Jesus Christ
The person Jesus Christ is eternally God and the Son of God who did appear on earth in the body of a man, under the self imposed limitations of a man at His first coming, being equal in being with God the Father and God the Spirit. He was and is used to create and sustain creation . In humility, He entered humanity by being born of a virgin, living a sinless life, and dying on the cross. He arose victoriously on the third day, conquering death and providing salvation to all who believe. God the Father established Him as Lord and placed Him as head over the church, He is our mediator between God and man and one day will return to Earth.

The Holy Spirit
The person of the Holy Spirit is God equal in being with God the Father and God the Son. He restrains evil until God’s purpose is fulfilled. He convicts us of sin, of unrighteousness and of judgment. He bears witness to the truth of salvation in Jesus Christ. He is the agent of salvation, who guides, teaches, witnesses, seals and sanctifies the believer. He intercedes to God, on behalf of the believer. He indwells and empowers the believer to live an obedient life. The Holy Spirit always glorifies Jesus Christ.

The Devil or Satan
Satan is a fallen angel, the unholy ruler of this world, the ruler over all the powers of darkness, who is destined to eternal judgment in the lake of fire.

Creation
Genesis is a literal account of creation. Man was directly created by God, not an evolutionary process.

The Fall of Man
Man was created innocent, perfect and in the image of God. He voluntarily disobeyed God, falling from a sinless state, and is now separated from God. Consequently, all of mankind are born sinners, with a sinful nature, by choice through Adam, and are under God's just condemnation, without defense or excuse and will spend eternity in hell, apart from the saving will of God by His grace and mercy alone through His Son, Jesus Christ.

The Virgin Birth
Jesus was born of Mary, a virgin, conceived through the Holy Spirit by a miracle of God and did not inherit a sinful nature, rather came in the likeness of a man, but from above.

The Atonement for Sin
Salvation of sinners is by grace alone, through faith in Jesus Christ the Son of God, who acts as a mediator to God the Father on our behalf. By the appointment of the Father, Christ, through His death on the cross, took upon Himself the payment for the sins of the world. He honored the Father by His personal obedience. Christ atoned for the world’s sin by shedding His blood when He died on the cross. Christ’s humanity was sinless and He was sacrificed on our behalf through the grace of God.

Faith, Salvation and the Eternal Security of the Believer
True faith, which is reliance upon, not mere intellectual belief in, Jesus Christ as both Savior and Lord is the only condition of salvation. Sinners must be born again, a new creation complete in Jesus Christ. It is an instantaneous event and not a process. Through the new birth, the one who had been dead in sin is made a partaker of the divine nature of God and receives eternal life, a free gift of God. It is by the grace and mercy of God through faith, and not by works; it is by the will of God, not of man's own will. The new creation is a miraculous event by the power of the Holy Spirit resulting in His indwelling of the new believer. Our acceptance of the Gospel is manifested by the fruits of repentance and newness of life. Those born again are eternally secure, kept by God and the Holy Spirit for Jesus Christ.

Justification
Justification is the act of God pronouncing one free from the guilt of sin and found to be completely right or just in His eyes. Justification can only come by God’s grace through His Son’s death and resurrection and not by any other means. Only those who have accepted what Christ has done on their behalf are pardoned from their sins and will receive the gift of eternal life.

Baptism
Immersion of a believer in water shows their public identification with our crucified, buried and risen Savior. (Immersion symbolizes death to sin and emergence symbolizes resurrection to new life). The believer should be old enough to understand what they are voluntarily doing.

Communion
Communion (also known as the Lord’s Supper) is the remembrance of His death, until He returns. The bread symbolizes His body and the cup symbolizes His blood, which He gave for the forgiveness of sins. Participation should be preceded always by solemn self-examination. Taking communion without solemn self-examination or light-heartily can be hazardous to ones well-being.

The Local Church
The local church is a congregation of immersed believers, associated by the new covenant and devoted to Biblical teaching, to fellowship, to the ordinances of Jesus Christ and to prayer. Its officers are pastors/elders and deacons, whose qualifications are clearly defined in the Bible. Its mission is to be Christ's bride and body, to preach the gospel and to make disciples. Each local church has the right of self government, free from the interference of any hierarchy of individuals or organizations. The one and only superintendent is Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit. Local churches can and should work together in love, to do good works and further the Gospel, since we are all of one body in Christ.

The Righteous and Wicked

There is a radical and essential difference between the righteous and the wicked and that only those who through faith are justified by the Lord Jesus Christ and sanctified by the Holy Spirit are truly righteous in God the Father’s sight. All who continue in unrepentance and unbelief are wicked in His sight and under the penalty of sin, which is death. This distinction holds true among mankind while living and after death, resulting in the everlasting joy of the righteous in the new heaven / new earth and the everlasting suffering of the wicked in hell.

Civil Government

Civil Government is of divine appointment for the interests and good of human society; government officials are to be prayed for, conscientiously honored, and obeyed. However, government rulings that are opposed to the will of God, should not be obeyed.

The Resurrection, Personal, Visible, Pre-Millenial, Return of Christ and Related
Christ bodily resurrected from the dead on the third day after His crucifixion, appearing to many on numerous occasions including to his disciples. Christ ascended into Heaven Christ is now our High Priest, reigning over the new covenant. Christ will rapture the church (resurrect the righteous dead changing them and the righteous living instantaneously into our new bodies and remove us from this earth). Christ will reward believers for how well we followed our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Christ will come again. Christ will reign over this earth with the righteous. Christ will resurrect the wicked de for eternal judgment. There will be a new Heaven and new Earth
GRACE -- God's divine influence upon the heart and its reflection in life, including gratitude.
FAITH -- both reliance on Christ for salvation and complete confidence in the truthfulness of God
BELIEVE -- to accept as true
    REVERENCE - awe and respect
FEAR - be afraid exceedingly, terror, apprehensive, cautious and timid depending on the occasion.
Basic Life Principles is a week long seminar covering the heart of living out Christianity both in it's basics and in depth. One may not agree regarding all that is taught, yet the foundation of what is taught is absolutely true: go to the Scripture and seek for yourself the answers God has on how we are to live our lives for the glory of the one who has created us. This one simple truth, if put into practice, with transform our lives into a useful vessel of God regardless of the culture we find ourselves in. As for the rest of what is taught there, do what the speaker recommends, which by the way is what both Peter and Paul, recommend: search the Scripture for God's answer and act on it! Christ Himself would recommend the same since it is God who inspired the writers of the Bible through the Holy Spirit to write what they wrote. We are to test all the spirits and know which are of God, that we may follow Him and ignore all false spirits. The end result, we are responsible to feed ourselves the Living Word.
