0) Why do so many Christians use the BOBV Bible?

Matt 15:6b "(6b) ...Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition."

The BOBV is the Black Out Bible Version. See
BOBV for more information.

1) Why is grace defined as God's unmerited favor?

The Greek word translated grace means: graciousness (as gratifying), of manner or act (abstract or concrete; literal, figurative or spiritual; especially the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life; including gratitude)

For a more detailed answer see
God's Glorious Grace

2) Why is faith defined as Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen?

The Greek word translated faith means: persuasion, that is, credence; moral conviction (of religious truth, or the truthfulness of God or a religious teacher), especially reliance upon Christ for salvation; abstractly constancy in such profession; by extension the system of religious (Gospel) truth itself:

Re-read the same verse with the actual meaning of faith inserted: Heb 11:1 Now faith (conviction of the truthfulness of God) is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen

God's reliability is our hope, not our faith.

3) Why do we not take Scripture for what it says, with the faith of a child?

Mat 18:3-4 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. (4) Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

4) Why do many Christians believe the amount of faith one has is in direct relation to the outcome of their request?

1. Mat 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
2. Repeated in Mt. 21:21; Lk 17:6

5) Why do we override the Christian culture, how Scripture says we are to live, with that of our homeland and/or the world?

1. Joh 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
2. Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
3.
1Co 2:6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought

6) Why do we send our children out into the world before they are married?

1. Mar 10:6-7 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. (7) For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife.
2. Repeated in Mt. 19:4-5; Eph. 5:31
3.
Originated in Gen. 2:24

7) Why do children marry without parental consent?

2. Col 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

8) Why do we tithe 10%?

1. 1Co 16:2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come.
2. 2Co 9:6-7 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. (7) Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

For a more detailed answer see
Biblical tithing is not 10%

9) Why is salvation said to occur apart from accepting Christ's Lordship?

Rom 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

10) Why do we say, once one is saved he/she cannot reject (denounce) the faith?

1. Mar 4:16-17 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; (17) And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word's sake, immediately they are offended.
2. Repeated in Mt. 13:20-21
3.
Heb 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, (5) And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, (6) If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

11) Why do some say, one can be saved again, that is more than once?

Heb 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, (5) And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, (6) If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

12) Why do we say there are gray areas?

1Jn 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.

13) Why do some say there are big sins and little sins?

Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

14) Why do we say Christ acted at times in His deity while He was on earth?

1. Joh 5:19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.
2. Joh 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.
3.
Joh 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
4.
Joh 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.

15) Why do many Christians believe the gift of apostle and prophet are not in existence today?

Eph 4:11-13 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; (12) For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: (13) Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

16) Why do we claim to love God and disregard His Word?

Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

17) Why do we blame the lost for the sinful wicked condition of the land?

2Ch 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

18) Why do denominations hold to their traditions rather than God's Word?

1. Mat 15:6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.
2. Mar 7:8-9 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. (9) And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
3.
Col 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

19) Why are women in leadership positions over men?

1Ti 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

20) Why do women teach over men?

1Ti 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

21) Why do women speak in church?

1Co 14:35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

22) Why is following the ways of Scripture, not to be saved, rather because we are saved, considered legalism?

1. Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
2. Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23) Why do many Christians judge the motives of others?

1. Jer 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
2. Psa 44:21 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

24) Why do many Christians act powerless over sin?

Eph 3:19-20 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. (20) Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us

25) Why do many Christians say we cannot stop a sin?

Joh 8:10-11 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? (11) She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

26) Why do Christians use birth-control?

1. Gen 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
2. Repeated in Gen. 9:1, 7
3. Deu 28:1, 4 And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth: (4) Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
4. Deu 28:15, 18 But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: (18) Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy land, the increase of thy kine, and the flocks of thy sheep.
5. Psa 127:3-5 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. (4) As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. (5) Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
6. Psa 128:3-4 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. (4) Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.
7. God looks at our motives - why we do what we do. If your motive for birth-control is the same as another's motive for abortion, then both are guilty of the same.
7.1 Mat 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

7.2 1Jn 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

27) Why do Christian women have short hair?

1Co 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

28) Why doesn't the church care for widows indeed?

1Ti 5:16 If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed.

29) Why did Christians sell our voice for a tax write-off?

1. Churches have always been tax free in America, yet most today are setup as 501c corporations to give the givers a reward for giving – a tax write off. Assuming no income limits and a 50% tax bracket, a $100,000 income, if tithed at 10% is $10,000 donation, of which half is a write-off not a tax credit. Ths the giver has lowered the taxable income by only $2,500! At what price? Churches cannot be vocal in politics!
2. Assuming the average Christian makes the average American income, only about $30,000, with a tax bracket is 15% over $6,000 (2012) and tithes 10%, $3,000. Half is allowed as a write-off which reduces taxes by $225 (15% of half the 3k). The average Christian worker has sold their voice as a group, the church, for only $225 a year!
3. What of a principle in God's Word to keep our giving a secret! Matt 6:3 "(3) But when you do alms, let not your left hand know what your right hand does:"
4. What of our motive for giving? If we give to get (a tax write-off), are we giving? True gifts are given with no strings attached!

30) Why does only one preacher speak at church?

1Cor 14:29 "(29) Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge." Note, the meaning of prophet in this verse would be considered preacher today.

31) Why does the church seem without power today?

2Tim 3:1-8 "(1) This know also, that in the last days dangerous times shall come.(2) For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,(3) Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,(4) Traitors, rebellious, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;(5) Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.(6) For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,(7) Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.(8) Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith."

32) Why would there be a question regarding the literal six day creation?

Day (H3117) in Gen. 2:4, the verse you mentioned to me, is defined one of two ways: 1) a literal day; 2) figuratively (a space of time defined by an associated term). If you reject the literal day definition, the associated terms to the same word, day (H3117), given in Gen 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31 are evening (H6153), which means dusk, and morning (H1242), which means dawn and/or morning. They confirm without doubt the days of creation are literal. God used both meanings of H3117 in Gen. 1.

33) Why do some Christians say they will be reunited with their spouse in heaven?

Mk 12:25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven

34) Why do many Christians only reverence God and not FEAR God?

1) Luke 5:26 "(26) And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day."
2) Luke 7:16 "(16) And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people."
3) 2Cor 7:1 "(1) Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God."
4) Eph 5:21 "(21) Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God."
5) 1Pet 3:15 "(15) But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:"
NOTE: Fear in this verses is G5401 - φόβος phobos fob'-os From a primary φέβομαι phebomai (to be put in fear); alarm or fright: - be afraid, + exceedingly, fear, terror
6) 2Tim 1:7 "(7) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
NOTE: this verse is a different word for fear, that we will not fear others: G1167 δειλία deilia di-lee'-ah From G1169; timidity: - fear.

There is a place for reverence, yet do not be foolish to think reverence replaces fear:
7) Heb 11:7 "(7) By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith."
NOTE: Fear in this verse: G2125 εὐλαβέομαι eulabeomai yoo-lab-eh'-om-ahee Middle voice from G2126; to be circumspect, that is, (by implication) to be apprehensive; religiously, to reverence: - (moved with) fear.
8 ) Heb 12:28 "(28) Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:"
NOTE: both are mentioned in this verse and fear includes but is not limited to reverence: G2124 εὐλάβεια eulabeia yoo-lab'-i-ah From G2126; properly caution, that is, (religiously) reverence (piety); by implication dread (concretely): - fear (-ed).
9) Matt 27:54 "(54) Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God."
10) 1Pet 2:17 "(17) Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king."
NOTE: fear in these verse includes reverence in the meaning, yet does not diminish being a afraid: G5399 φοβέω phobeō fob-eh'-o From G5401; to frighten, that is, (passively) to be alarmed; by analogy to be in awe of, that is, revere: - be (+ sore) afraid, fear (exceedingly), reverence.

Why so much being said about fearing God?
11) Ps 111:10 "(10) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever."
12) Prov 9:10 "(10) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding."
NOTE: Fear again includes reverence and is not abstain from being afraid: H3374 יראה yir'âh yir-aw' Feminine of H3373; fear (also used as infinitive); morally reverence: - X dreadful, X exceedingly, fear (-fulness).

There are more Greek and Hebrew words translated as fear, study for yourself and then you will BOTH reverence AND fear GOD. Enjoy your study!!!

35) Why do many Christian ignore or dismiss children as if they are not in the room or send them out of the room?

1) Eph 6:4 "(4) And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord."
2) Luke 1:17 "(17) And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord."
3) Matt 19:13-14 "(13) Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.(14) But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven."

36) Why do pastors do so much of the work of the "church"?

Eph 4:11-13 "(11) And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;(12) For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:(13) Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:"

Pastors are to train the saints to do the work of God, they not to do it all themselves.

37) Why does the church let the government do welfare?

1John 3:17 "(17) But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?"

38) Why do so many Christians chase after the things of this world?

Matt 6:32-34 "(32) (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.(33) But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.(34) Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

40) Why do we as Christians focus on the sins the world is doing?

2Cor 4:4 "(4) In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."

41) Why do we condemn the lost?

John 3:17 "(17) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved."

42) Why does the church dismiss the sin in our own house (in the church and at home)?

Matt 18:15-17 "(15) Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.(16) But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.(17) And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican."

43) Why do Christians overlook sin in the church?

1Cor 6:5 "(5) I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?"

44) Why does the church use gimmicks to attrack the lost?
